GREATNESS CAPTURED IN PHOTOGRAPHS

All these poets so self-confident

in black-white, all these

old poets dead and gone.

Their self-confidence,

those firm faces with strong-willed eyes

looking directly at us -

all that coming

from somewhere that doesn't exist,

moments that have been erased,

left with these relics with

far less in them than we think.

From mere black on white

we magicians raise

whole persons, days and places

believing our phantasies.
