I remember when
I was taken back
reading Joanna Russ' The Female Man
in my mid-teens,
a strike against
assumptions I realized
I hadn't known I held,
that the gendered people
didn't think as I thought all did
and that nor had I,
that my belief
that all were the same,
not even yin and yang
but primordial unity
in somewhat different
moulds but all the same
underneath the guises
of gender and age,
that this belief
was wrong
and people divided,
divergent and alien,
and now in
these bleak years
when men show their worst again,
now I think that if and when
men are poison
and that naive
vision of people of our species
being just people unreachable,
give them,
give us,
poison
and liberate
yourself,
this species.
Science does wonders.
I'm sure it can let
one half live
without
its rotting Siamese
corpse.
