THE GUIDE OF VENUS

When Venus visits you in your dreams,

giving you visions of passion and ecstasy,

and the morning with its feeble light

like Orpheus drags you back

to the dreary waking world -

then don't lament what has gone

with the night and the touch

of the goddess; the vision

lingers in your memories,

like a guide waiting

for your sign to

seek again that what was given by dreams

and what, the daring

may recover until the greater sleep.
