A LITTLE BALLAD OF SWIFT

The ladies good, and decent breeding,

they loved Jonathan Swift very much;

they wanted the dean to marry

and little Swifts in Dublin to make;

but Jonathan, he never liked

the idea of the ring to take -

half as much as the adoration

he got from his Vanessa

and Stella too. Perhaps in

him Bickerstaff knew

that worship can survive much,

but never a matrimony.
