IN LATE AUTUMN

Colder nights

after

shorter days

of fading

       gold,

sharp blue,

the snow

still

   unfallen

the autumn

spreads

across

     the remains

of the withered

            year.

Unburied

the summer lies

             dead

in scattered leaves.
