THE NORMAL KIND OF SAFETY

I believe that when people being bombed daily

are safe then people walking on their own streets

without fear of being bombed will be safe.

Not safe as utterly safe, never facing accidents

or violence by friends or strangers. But the kind

of safety of which people being bombed daily

dream of: The normal kind of safety where

there will be altercations and traffic accidents

and the occasional lunatic, but no bombs,

and on those other streets no extremists whose

own justification is an echo of the justification

of those who bomb people daily.
