THE NIGHT CAME

In the ten minutes spend

inside the grocery store,

just before eleven,

the bright evening

turned into darkening night.

Almost Mediterranean,

this quick, abrupt change,

from clear twilight

to this soft gloom,

and so the change

in the mind that dwells

in the landscape

and adjusts,

a mere mirror,

to its surroundings,

going quiet,

becoming still.
