I move between unfinished translations
becoming seaworthy
and poems where I express
my desire that burns brighter
than the sun rising to the cold autumn
sky, desire flaming as erect lust
for the duration of writing
one of these, but never extinguished
as I as a pilot coax the translations
from the West Indies,
metamorphosed vessels,
towards landfall across
the azure waters
where her shape moves
under the waves,
a mermaid,
and emerges again and again,
a benevolent siren,
enflaming desire into consuming
lust.
