In this world of dust and pain,
where the unforgotten
were entombed alive
resting on their mangled beloved,
in this world where shattered
concrete becomes mass grave,
in this world of dust and pain
to be humane is to resist;
to hear the last calls made
from under the rubble
before the batteries ran out
and to cry on their behalf
when they have died of thirst,
is to be a human being
in a world of dust and pain
ruled by savage beasts.
