FOR SALEM SABBAH(2000/01-2018) AND ABDULLAH IRMEILAT(2002/03-2018)

Salem Mohammad Suleiman Sabbah(17) and Abdullah Ayman Salim Irmeilat(15) were killed by Israel's occupation forces bombing at Rafah, near the border between occupied Palestine 1967's besieged Gaza Strip, and ethnically cleansed Palestine 1948 on the night between February 18th and 19th 2018. Which one of the boys was the one whose one eye was left open in death in the images shown in the articles I read then was never specified. So this is for the memory of them both, as is fitting.

Yours is not the face
of a one who found haven.
One eye has been left open
in death; when you lay there,
bleeding at the border
dividing your land,
what was the last thing seen
by it? Were you
on your back under the night-sky,
stars hidden in explosions
as your life was bled
away by the pitiless enemy,
who forgot its own humanity?
Or were you laying
on your side, watching your blood
mix with the night
and the dark soil of your land?
Did they hear your screams
or did they hide your agony
from their consciences
with more explosions breaking
the night apart?  There is no
answer from the frozen lips.
