TOO BRITTLE?

October over,

and what I have done?

I have written

and what else?

Shouldn't words

be more than words

and not stay on pages

as crude ornaments

to merely drive away

the white wastes

that terrify the mind?

Shouldn't words lead

to action, shouldn't

words be forged into swords?

But perhaps the metal

of the words is too brittle.
