Afternoon half gone,
so bright the hours
of deep blue skies
and golden sunlight,
it feels like summer,
it looks like summer
if your wandering gaze
only catches the trees
still in green
But four hours
and the golden sunlight
that now gilds the day
will be gone
and the azure sky
will hold the fading afterglow
of this day that was
and the first
of autumn's stars.
