POWER OF POETRY

A poem has no power

which the person who wrote it

and the person who read it

didn't already possess.

It can only awaken

what was already there,

waiting to be given form,

waiting to be given direction,

waiting to reach through time

from mind to mind.

Thus the act of reading

is as powerful

as the act of writing.
