Have I not given too little
attention to Sudan and Kinshasa's Congo?
Of course I have. And even if all the time
I have spent shouting about other conflicts
would have given to them, it would
not be enough, for Mercator's crime
diminishes these massive states
in the eyes of the world, diminishes
the turmoil these tortured giants cause
to their continent, to their planet,
even to us, the sheltered, privileged
people in our first world fastnesses.
Yes, I have given too little attention,
and I have no excuses.
