Thousands of years
our elites hoarded knowledge
and erudition
was a sign of their rule
over us, bare literacy
a morsel they threw
for the selected few,
their scribes and clerks.
For a short time
they tasted
a world where knowledge
was more widely available
commodity,
a sacrifice for social stability,
necessity as their black mills
had gone electric,
and they have found the taste
sour indeed; so now
they praise ignorance
as the proper state of being
and have become true believers
in it; not for them
enough to grab the apple
half eaten from our hands
and have us exiled,
they are felling the tree,
burning the garden
and exiling themselves.
Burn them instead
and eat the apple in full.
