FRANCESCO FURINI(1604-1646): HYLAS AND THE NYMPHS(1630)

Hylas, poor bastard with a face
like that of a weasel, gazes with
desperation, longing for the sight of his
lover Heracles emerging to save him
from all this soft female flesh
drowning him; alas, this overabundance
of limbs and curves will be his fate,
and Heracles, searching in vain, will
miss the boat, and all the loot & fame
the Argo would carry back,
and miss too that glorious moment
of chopping a child to pieces
to delay a pursuing father...
