PAPUA NEW GUINEA

First the number of dead

and missing was 300, then 670,

now 2000, but possibly 5000.

A green hill, before,

now light brown gravel,

tumbled rocks, water

flowing light brown,

where houses stood.

The landscape flowed,

and humans, the humans,

under all this brown soil,

these rocks like megaliths

marking graves.
