What was life meant to be?
Surely not this.
(Forget what we think
life 'owed' to us, what
our 'destiny' should
have been - all of that
was down to chance.)
For life was meant to be
a rather simple thing:
A biological organism
reproducing and protecting
the begetted offspring
until they can survive
on their own.
That, simply, is
what life was meant to be.
Everything else, what we
should have achieved,
what the world should
have 'given' us, was just
to be foam on the waves
of life's ocean.
