Richard III is remembered because of Shakespeare,
goes the claim so often repeated
during these days after the king's resurrection of sorts.
Those who make this claim forget
that Shakespeare chose the subjects of his plays
based by what was already well known,
well remembered
and that now he is remembered
for these characters
without which
no one would remember William Shakespeare.
Without Richard III, Macbeth and the rest
time would have annihilated his memory
like it did the names of those
who gave all those wounds
to Richard III at Bosworth.
