Truly the best childhoods
are not those truly lived,
but those read about;
childhoods of the mind,
of imagination mixed with nostalgia
towards what never was
but should have been -
a childhood not as a wound
but as a magical quest of discovery,
whose fruits would carry through
the long, bitter years of adulthood
like summer wine in the cellar
of memory, bringing back hope,
allowing us to go on
until the last faltering step.
