The Romans later claimed
they made a public clerk
out of the son of
defeated king Perseus
of Macedon.
This, apparently, was
some sort of slight
or an elaborate joke,
causing mirth and laughs
when brought up in parties,
a Macedonian royal
named Alexander
counting Roman accounts
instead of his phalanxes
marching into battles.
