JUNE EVENING, WAITING FOR RAIN

The evening brings gloom

of rainclouds over the deep green

of the landscape; water

waiting to pour

over thirsting land -

and the lone spear of

light, impaling

air pregnant

with thunder to the soil.

The silence

grows louder.
