The images arriving now from Gaza,
of children and the elderly
dying of starvation,
their skeletal bodies
like Egyptian mummies
given modern clothing,
bring back images of Yarmouk,
of the 194 who starved to death
there during the refugee camp's
long siege by the Syrian regime.
The world watched, and now as
the Israeli regime starves Gaza,
Gaza whose population is fourteen times
that of the 'capital of the Palestinian
diaspora' back in 2011,
the world again watches, the world finds
excuses it never found for the Syrian regime,
and the skeletal bodies, they are the same.
