The first social media account I lost to censorship
was because of West Papua. Here in the 'West',
remembrance of the Holocaust is holy, because
it's safely in the past. But show people images
of an ongoing genocide, how human bodies
are broken, sliced open, and the society which
shouts "Never Again!" and thus considers
having done its civilized duty, declares
evidence of an ongoing genocide is "Gore"
and shouldn't be seen, being "Too graphic".
Ongoing genocides are such a bother,
you almost feel like you should be doing
something about them, when you would
rather prefer not to see or know.
So you censor. Conscience can
continue its deep slumber.
