Grandfather had jumped from the back of the truck

and was laying on the ground beside the road

when an officer came riding on his horse

amid the falling shells.

The officer he kept riding

his horse along the road

when the shells kept coming

and bullets started to fly.

Grandfather was laying beside the road,

watching bullets hit the ground, when a falling shell

ripped the horse and the rider to pieces

and scattered their torn flesh high and wide.
