An old poet, minor bureaucrat,
sacrificed fame seeking pleasure
of the forbidden kind, now too old
for that one thing he had lived for,
for which had sacrificed greatest
gift, for bodies that wouldn't
surrender without coins
exchanging hands. And now
it was in the past, his life
another old story to recount
in verse, for others to publish,
about failing to rise to meet
the challenge of one's gifts.
