Gravel under my boots now, not
snow and ice. Gravel on cracked
asphalt, a winter's worth of gravel
thrown on an icy street, and now
these pebbles that have endured
a million years or ten since torn
apart from the bedrock, rasping
and creaking under my feet,
this part of my brief existence
walking on shards of mountains.
