We might say Dante immortalized Beatrice,
of whom there are but few lines in documents
beyond what Alighieri wrote; but was it really
the real Beatrice he gave a lasting presence?
Or just what his own imagination wrought
upon barely known face, form and voice?
If given chance, would she have chosen this?
