We don't dare to look people
too closely, to see their raw
humanity without masks
they wear, without illusions
and prejudices we hold
about them; we don't dare
to handle people in their
enormous complexity
- so we glimpse them,
shrouded, masked, missing
the complete person.
We prefer it that way.
They prefer we do,
most of the time.
