Last evening mist was on the lake
when I arrived on the beach
thirty minutes past nine
in the evening, today
I'm on the beach
ten minutes earlier
and the air is warmer,
no mist, yet the same
lingering purple sunlight
reflected on the dark waters,
distant cries
of migrating birds.
