The living have their guilt,
the poison and the elixir
of their days,
the dead lie among the ruins
of their denied years;
those who could have
and wouldn't avoid
side by side with those
who brought to ruin
the long years waiting
the silent mouths,
unhearing ears
and unseeing eyes
turning to dust
except in the guilt
of those that live.
