I sit on the pier,
an opened envelope
atop the Manyoshu,
the late summer evening,
the last embers of the fallen Sun
disappearing into the dark waves
coming from the main
breaking against the soft sand,
and yet I can barely observe
what is passing, the colours
and the fragrance
that would captivate,
the dark blue waves calling
offering their embrace,
for atop the Manyoshu,
free from the envelope
and obscuring veils
is beauty I can't divert
my eyes off, beauty
that raises my flesh
like the wind the breaking waves.
