THE COVER OF ROBERT DUNCAN'S SELECTED POEMS(1997)
Those massive white sideburns!
Like some self-satisfied enormous cat
or Michael Douglas playing vampire
in a box office flop, he
looks to us from the cover
we find difficult to open. There
is some odd, discomforting echo
of life (dry and dusty, fading)
in those long-gone squinting eyes
targeting something forever unknown.
