POETRY CREATES ITS OWN LASTING TRUTH

 In poetry the unattainable becomes

attainable; what continents divide

can merge in mind or flesh.

Unburdened by the realities

of life, with one sweep the words

make true what the world denies;

the distant becomes close,

the yearning consummated.

Poetry creates its own

lasting truth.
