You had lived in that small town on an island

on England's North Sea coast

for ten years or so, before that

in the United States -

and of course, West Germany -

a total of fifteen or so years

after leaving East Germany.

Yet, thirty-one years after your

decomposed body was discovered in Surrey,

to the BBC you were still

an 'East German' author

in baffling exile;

it tells a lot about the Isle of Sheppey

and Sheerness-on-Sea

that in 2015 the BBC still wondered

why on earth had you chosen them

instead of East Germany...
