SINCE BAUDELAIRE, A GREAT POET HAS ALWAYS BEEN A SUICIDE BOMBER
Pity the 'Western' poet of these last sixty or so years
- no government
to kill them, or
at least imprison,
they have had to kill themselves
& isolate themselves from society
(which doesn't shun them,
as it doesn't notice them,
alas!) &
just write in
obscurity of their own making. If
only they could write and perform and declare
with the vigour of an explosion
scattering parts of culture, politics & society
in the manner of body parts, limbs
torn and entrails emerging, in public venues
& on neat suits worn by faces
never visited by an honest, actually
felt emotion -
a poet should,
a poet must,
be a terrorist of word, action and
hostages shot in regular
intervals. He must act &
let time act on herself, be
its instrument, chaos unveiled,
hate uncontained, revenge's
poison blade and assassin's
gun raised to a politician's face. She
has no other justification
but poetry & life & blood running
through & away.
A poet must
made the State hate herself
to shock the wretch to life.
to shock the wretch to life.
