SOPHIE'S CHOICE AND SCHINDLER'S LIST
There's a certain breed of human
who can't watch movies about atrocities
done before his birth without tears
and sympathy, yet whose response
to today's suffering is mocking jokes.
Time, to him, elevates suffering;
at distance it achieves terrible grandeur,
at close-up he dismisses it
and blames the victims; 'Surely
they did something to deserve that!'
Yes, they did - they existed,
and that was enough.
Yes, they did - they existed,
and that was enough.
