TO J9

This happened soon after

she had learned to walk;

She came after me

towards the bathroom, wobbling

in her unsure feet,

curious and determined;

slipping, she fell without

making a sound, and lay

there unmoving, silent

for an eternity of dread.

Then, suddenly, a high

cry. Relieved, surprised,

all three of us; I felt

all-encompassing joy

as she cried, scared,

disappointed, unhurt.

Tears and sobbing

have never made

me so happy than

they did then.
