Only the cruel are of unbending
strength; those who have compassion,
the basis of our humanity more
than a word for them, burning
in them, that can make them frail,
empathy a bleeding, debilitating
wound. All their days less
than they could be, and all that
fiery compassion wasted as they
limp in pain, giving little
of what they have to those
in need, often like a turtle
hiding in their shell from
the world's great suffering.
